Director's Welcome:
Greetings from Rome!
What better place to learn about the treasures of
Italy than here in this vibrant city? St. Stephen’s
School is perfectly situated to provide this opportunity,
due to its location and its excellent academic tradition.
Students in our summer programs have a unique opportunity
to study and explore Rome with prestigious instructors
who are at the top of their field, and have a passion
for teaching. This means that invariably, students
have a lot of fun learning.
Most
of our summer programs courses are held completely
on-site around the city of Rome. You’ll amble
through old churches on your way to see little-known
Renaissance treasures, crawl through the ruins of
ancient monuments in the Roman forum, study Latin
while gazing at the Circus Maximus, take a drawing
course where the model is the breathtaking city itself,
learn to take digital photographs (of the city! of
the Italians! of the food!) like a professional…in
fact, by a professional. In addition, you’ll
write, dance and make music with exciting maestri,
cook alongside a phenomenal Italian chef, and learn
the Italian language that makes living in Rome even
that much more exciting. Your weekends will be spent
exploring different Italian cities, as the programs
include visits to celebrated locations such as Pompeii,
Florence and Orvieto.
Summer program students enjoy comfort and a sense
of community living in the school’s residence
hall. Students reside alongside interns who schedule
activities and actually accompany the group to cultural
events around Rome in the evenings. The summer programs
faculty and staff are extraordinary individuals who
complete the family and create the programs’
warm environment. They are, too, tireless and infectious
beings who love Rome and Italy, and who receive joy
from sharing this passion with others. It is an incredible
group, and we are very lucky.
The
bottom line? The St. Stephen’s School summer
programs provide a safe and exciting environment that
allows students to feel secure in their new home abroad,
and encourages them to explore and take advantage
of all that the city has to offer: its art, history,
food, wonderful inhabitants, music and traditions,
and so much more. We are proud to offer programs that
are so rich in content, and hope that you’ll
join us.
As an art historian, an American (well, an Italian-American),
a mother, a perpetual student, and a true lover of
Italy and ancient Roman culture, I am amazed by this
city and its history every day. This is the emotion
that I want each of our students to experience. Please
feel free to contact me if you have any questions
or if I can provide further information for you.
We
look forward to seeing you!
Warm
regards,
Crispin
